Volunteer Fire Department & Emergency Response

"A volunteer firefighter is a member of the public who offers to give their time to their local fire department for free. They do this to service their community and to help with the important job of tackling fires and medical emergencies."  Firefighterinsider.com

Emergency medical responders are people who are specially trained to provide out-of-hospital care in medical emergencies.... providing basic life support where pre-hospital health professionals are not available due to limited resources or infrastructure.

"What is a medical emergency? A medical emergency is a sudden injury or serious illness that, if not treated right away, could cause death or serious harm to you."

An example of a life-threatening emergency could be the following:

  • Heart attack
  • Severe breathing problem
  • Severe bleeding
  • Stroke
  • Convulsions
  • Severe burns
  • Gunshot or knife wounds
  • Unconsciousness
  • Immediate and imminent threat to life or loss of life due to a psychiatric illness or substance use.

If you can, call your primary care doctor. If you cannot call, go to the nearest hospital emergency room or call 911 for emergency assistance."
